Tseminyu 1st inter-ward sports Meet

The NPF Youth Wing, Tseminyu division, in collaboration with the Tseminyu Town Councillors, organized the 1st Inter-Ward Sports Meet under the theme “Victory Over Drugs, One District One Mission” with the collective pledge “Play Clean, Stay Clean.” The two-day event brought together athletes and community members in a celebration of sporting excellence, unity and social awareness.
In a display of all-round sporting excellence, Ward No. 7 emerged as the overall champion. The ward delivered a stellar performance across multiple disciplines, securing honors in Men’s Futsal and impressive finishes in other events.
The opening ceremony was graced by Deputy Commissioner of Tseminyu, Japhet Woch, as the special guest. The programme featured an invocation, welcome address, special presentation, and an oath-taking ceremony led by Gwalo Kent, Sole Tep (Deputy Chairperson, TTC) and Sokenye Kent (president, NPF Youth Wing).
In his address, DC Woch emphasized discipline and punctuality in sports while raising awareness about drug abuse, intoxicants and HIV/AIDS. He highlighted sports as a powerful rehabilitation tool for youth. Earlier, the Marathon Run was flagged off by chairperson, Tseminyu Town Council, Ruth Thong, with briefing by Walathong Jemu. The closing ceremony was attended by chairman Tseminyu Union, Jwenga Kent, as special guest, alongside chairperson Tracy Kent Seb and other dignitaries. In his speech, Kent encouraged youth to believe in their abilities and pursue sports as a dignified alternative to destructive habits.
Hon. Secretary, Nagaland Cricket Association, Hyunilo Anilo Khing, underscored sports as a fast-growing industry and a viable career option, while also stressing its role in fostering unity across generations.
The event concluded with prize distribution and an exhibition T20 Cricket match between Tseminyu District Cricket and Rengma Selo Zi. The NPF Youth Wing and Tseminyu Town Councillors affirmed their commitment to making the Inter-Ward Sports Meet an annual event, with plans to expand the range of competitions in the coming years.
