The Tenyimi Students’ Union Dimapur (TSUD) has announced a long-term cleanliness and beautification initiative in collaboration with the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), aimed at transforming the town into a healthier, greener and more livable city.
In an exclusive interaction with Nagaland Post, TSUD president Sotilo Seb explained that the initiative was inspired by the Union’s concern for the environment and the living conditions of the community. He said that while many people tend to depend solely on the authorities for waste management, it was important for citizens to recognize that maintaining cleanliness is a shared duty. By taking up this initiative, the Union hopes to not only keep Dimapur clean but also to encourage community participation and nurture a culture of civic responsibility.
The Union’s long-term vision includes building a sense of responsibility and ownership among the citizens of Dimapur, he said particularly among the younger generation.
Seb mentioned that TSUD has taken up the task of maintaining the stretch from City Tower to Golaghat Junction (Trogopan Hotel traffic point) for two years in collaboration with the DMC. Through sustained efforts, the Union aims to establish lasting cleanliness and beautification practices that could eventually make Dimapur a model town.
As part of the plan, TSUD will conduct monthly cleanliness drives across priority areas of the town while also organizing awareness campaigns through social media and poster distributions to sensitize the public on waste management and civic sense. Plantation and beautification activities are also on the agenda, particularly along the City Tower to Golaghat Junction route. Seb mentioned that special drives will be undertaken on important occasions, such as World Environment Day, to reinforce the message of shared responsibility.
To ensure continuity and sustainability, Seb mentioned that the union is setting up a student volunteer monitoring team that will regularly follow up after each activity. He stated that the union is also working closely with the DMC to ensure proper waste disposal, while involving local colonies and shopkeepers so that cleanliness is maintained beyond the drives.
Appreciating the initiative, DMC chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi said that the Council is committed to supporting the project. He lauded TSUD for its efforts, stating that such community participation is crucial in creating a cleaner and healthier Dimapur.
