The Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) has vehemently condemned the assault on its executive member in the presence of government officials at DUDA office on December 11 by one Mark Muraikiu Tikhir, son of Late Tomusu, who is serving as a ‘Primary Teacher’ at GPS Chikiuponger village, and as head Goan Bura of Kiusam village and presently residing at Lerie colony, Kohima.
In a condemnation note, TTC president Topan K Tikhir and executive chairman Dioto M stated the TTC was appalled by the unruly act of Mark Muraikiu Tikhir for assaulting its official for no rhyme and reason when he (its official), in an official capacity as TTC executive member with the TTC vice president, had gone to attend the meeting called by the DUDA officials.
TTC said that there can be no place for a scoundrel in a civilised society, and the act so perpetrated should be condemned by all right-thinking citizens. It wondered as to what the government teacher and head G.B. of a village was doing in the government office at that very moment.
As begged for forgiveness in the name of God by the assailant (Mark Muraikiu Tikhir), the TTC executive member has withdrawn the FIR filed at North Police Station, Kohima and forgiven him in the true Christian spirit. However, the Tribal Council warned that it would no longer remain a mute spectator when its officials are assaulted. It also questioned the concerned departments as to what rules permit a person to hold dual posts in government institutions.
