A ticket traveling examiner (TTE) was allegedly caught collecting money from passengers travelling on Nagaland Express, which arrived at Lanka Railway Station on Thursday.
A video of TTE, identified as Bhajan Malakar, collecting cash from passengers without issuing proper tickets has gone viral on social media sparking outrage.
According to reports, Malakar, a TTE of Divisional Railway Manager’s Office, Lumding (DRM) under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Maligaon, Guwahati was seen writing passengers’ names on plain paper and collecting cash without providing valid tickets.
The incident has raised concerns about ongoing issues of unauthorized money collection from passengers.
Recently a similar incident occurred when a deputy chief ticket collector (DCTC) identified as Sumit Kumar Singh, was suspended for allegedly collecting money from passengers on Jana Shatabdi Express train. Despite his suspension, the DCTC reportedly managed to rejoin the service, raising serious questions about the department’s oversight and accountability.
The incident at Lanka Railway Station highlights recurring issue of misconduct among railway staff. The viral video prompted calls for a thorough investigation and stricter measures to prevent such practices in the future.
Railway authorities were yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. Passengers and locals have demand transparency and accountability to restore trust in the railway system.
