Tuensang fiasco: PPC, KU want responsibility fixed

Expressing concern over the Tuensang fiasco, the Phom People’s Council (PPC) has appealed to the state government to immediately unearth the truth and make known public the actions taken against those responsible.

In a press release, PPC president P Chingan Phom and vice-president H Tenchem Phom said that the incident could have been averted had there been proper coordination among all the agencies involved in the fight against COVID-19.

Acknowledging the sacrifices made by all the stakeholders, the PPC, however, opined that the fiasco could have been handled more wisely and professionally. PCC said the incident has “deeply hurt the sentiments of the eastern Nagas in general and the people of Tuensang in particular.”

KU: Konyak Union (KU) Mon has asserted the Tuensang incident would not have happened had those responsible effectively followed the standard operating procedure.

In a press release, KU president S Howing and general secretary Wango Konyak strongly urged the government to take immediate action those responsible.

KU also demanded immediate activation of the BSL-3 laboratory in Dimapur to facilitate the process of early testing of returnees. It also reiterated that no person be sent to their respective districts without confirming test result.

Further, KU urged the government to immediately install BSL-3 Lab in Tuensang “without bargaining” as demanded by the people of Tuensang.
