About 350-metre stretch of road on National Highway-202 that was blocked and washed away by massive landslide near Yayi bridge under Tuensang district in the month of July this year remains to be restored.
The particular road, which serves as lifeline between Kiphire and Tuensang, has been left unattended for quite some time now causing immense hardship to the people of the area.
The civil society groups have appealed to the state government to take appropriate measures and clear the road at the earliest. It may be recalled that Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, on his three-day visit to Kiphire, carried out spot inspection of landslide area Yayi Bridge on September 21, 2018.
Yimchungrü Tribal Council (YTC) had on August 30 last appealed to the State PWD authority to immediately restore the said road. YTC had lamented that no action has been taken even after visiting the spot by responsible on several occasions.
The council had said that people living in the area were facing massive crisis due to snapping of road connectivity between the two districts.
The people have expressed dismay that the state government has turned a deaf ear to the plea of the public and various civil society organizations despite several representations for the restoration of the road.
According to sources, the department was contemplating fresh cutting because the old road has been damaged beyond repair. Landslide first occurred on the night of July 29 near Yayi Bridge.
Meanwhile, it was reported that due to blockade of the road, the dead body of a government employee, who was killed in a road mishap near NAP out sector Shamator on October 19, 2018, had to be strapped to a bamboo pole and carried across the landslide area.
