In a series of crackdowns against drug peddling and illegal liquor trade, Tuensang police made multiple arrests in the past month, uncovering significant amounts of narcotics and illicit liquor.
According to Tuensang Police, Quick Response Team (QRT) Crime Branch, led by UBSI Adikhum, seized 34.11 grams of suspected heroin and 1,757 Spasmo Proxyvon capsules from a bus en-route to Tuensang on August. The accused was identified as Tangnio (53), resident of ‘B’ Sector Tuensang Town, is now facing charges under Tuensang PS under the NDPS Act.
Acting on a tip-off intelligence, the QRT intercepted a night super bus from Dimapur and recovered 44.28 grams of suspected heroin on August 28. The accused was identified as “SS lieut.” Chemangeangba (39), an alleged cadre of the NSCN (R) Akato faction. He has been arrested and a case was registered under Tuensang PS under the NDPS Act.
The officer-in-charge of PS Tuensang apprehended Naro Chang for selling illicit liquor on August 29. The seizure included 48 cans of kingfisher beer, a bottle of VAT 69 whisky and a bottle of Blenders Pride. In this connection, a case has registered at Tuensang PS under the NLTP Act. On another operation stint over a vehicle checkpoint at OP Chare jurisdiction, 96 bottles of MC Rums (750 ml) were confiscated from a bus on August 31. The accused was identified as Sutiba Sangtam (24) from Longkhim, who is now facing charges at Longkhim PS under the NLTP Act.
Furthermore, in a bid to raise awareness about cyber threats and drug abuse, the DEF Tuensang organized a programme on ‘Cyber Crime and NDPS’ at the Sangsangyu Baptist Church on September 3. ASI Putiyanger from the Cyber Crime Cell spoke on cyber threats and financial frauds, while UBSI I. Yongkongtoshi discussed the NDPS menace among the youth, urging them to contribute to social reforms and education to keep the community drug-free.
