Two alleged drug peddlers were nabbed along with 67.26 kg of WY tablets with an estimated market value of Rs 53.8 crore in Manipur’s Chandel district on Friday.
A joint team of Assam Rifles and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) nabbed two individuals with huge quantity of the narcotics during an operation based on specific intelligence inputs.
An official source said that acting swiftly on the input, a mobile vehicle check post was established in the general area of Bala Point where a white Gypsy and a Kenbo motorcycle (Myanmar origin) were observed approaching.
Both vehicles halted around 60–70 meters from the checkpoint, and the suspects abandoned their vehicles, attempting to flee into the surrounding forested terrain.
The security team pursued the individuals, conducting an extensive area sweep. Both suspects were eventually apprehended, and the narcotics recovered were handed over to the NCB for further investigation and legal proceedings.
“The search column responded with immediate pursuit, initiating an extensive area sweep. After a determined effort, the team successfully apprehended both suspects.
A thorough inspection of the vehicles and individuals led to the recovery of 67.26 kilograms of WY tablets, a potent narcotic substance, with an estimated market value of Rs 53.8 crore,” IGAR(South) said in a release late Friday evening. The seized contraband and the apprehended individuals were subsequently handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for further investigation and legal proceedings, it added.
This operation stands as a testament to the synergy between Assam Rifles and NCB in combating the menace of drug trafficking in the region, the IGAR (South) asserted.
Assam Rifles continued to maintain vigilant oversight across sensitive areas of Manipur, reinforcing its commitment to upholding law and order and safeguarding communities from the threats posed by narcotics and other illicit activities.
“The successful interdiction at Bala Point highlights the force’s proactive stance and operational readiness in addressing emerging security challenges, it added.
