The Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (NIMSR), Kohima, witnessed a significant event on Thursday with the formal handing over of two Mahindra Bolero vehicles donated by UCO Bank under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, followed by the inauguration of a state-of-the-art 3D Dissection Table & Skill Lab at the NIMSR College Building.
The event commenced with the ceremonial handover of two Mahindra Bolero vehicles, provided by Apex Motors and donated by UCO Bank’s. Senior officials from UCO Bank, including – chief manager Kohima Branch, Goutam Das and Zonal Head (Jorhat Zone), Narendra Pratap Singh addressed the gathering, emphasizing the bank’s dedication to supporting healthcare and education in Nagaland.
They commended NIMSR for its contributions to medical education and healthcare services in the state and expressed UCO Bank’s commitment to collaborating for societal welfare under CSR initiatives.
Director-cum-Dean of NIMSR, Dr. Soumya Chakraborty expressed gratitude to UCO Bank for the donation of the vehicles, which will enhance outreach medical services across Nagaland, including remote areas. She acknowledged the challenges faced by the institute in its initial stages and hoped that such support would facilitate smoother operations.
The event proceeded with the inauguration of two cutting-edge facilities: 3D Dissection Table in Integrated Research & Teaching Learning Lab, the 3D Dissection Table is a revolutionary tool in medical education, offering: Interactive 3D visualization of human anatomy; Virtual dissection for disciplines such as Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and Obstetrics & Gynecology; Enhanced learning for medical, nursing, and postgraduate students; a collaborative and self-directed learning approach.
Dr. Chakraborty highlighted that this technology is a first-of-its-kind in Northeast India and will significantly advance medical training and research.
Skill Lab for Clinical Training: The newly installed Skill Lab-provides a simulated environment for students to refine clinical competencies before real-patient interactions.
Key features include: Practice on lifelike mannequins for procedural and communication skills; Training in cognitive, psychomotor, and team-building skills as per National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines; Debriefing sessions for performance review and improvement; Enhanced patient safety and confidence among trainees.
Dr. Chakraborty described the Skill Lab as an essential facility for modern medical education, ensuring students are well-prepared for clinical practice.
The ceremony was attended by faculty, students, and officials, marking a milestone in NIMSR’s journey toward excellence in medical education and research.
Joint secretary, Health and Family Welfare Renapomo Odyuo inaugurated the Skill Lab and additional secretary, S Tainiu inaugurated the 3D Dissection Table in Integrated Research and Teaching Learning Lab.
