Two Pakistanis Among Nine Charged by NIA in Sirsa Women Police Station Attack

Sirsa (Haryana), May 26 (IANS): The National Investigation Agency has filed a chargesheet against nine accused, including two Pakistani nationals, in connection with the November 25, 2025 grenade attack on the Sirsa women’s police station in Haryana. The two Pakistani nationals charged are Shahzad Bhatti, a gangster-turned-terrorist identified as the mastermind, and Sohail Ahmad alias Sohail Baloch, both named as handlers in the case, while the seven Indian nationals include Dheeraj alias Dhiru, Vikas alias Vikky, Sandeep alias Daimar, Vikas, Sushil alias Sillu, Md. Sijaan alias Sijaan Ghazi, and Gurjant Singh. The chargesheet, filed before the Special NIA Court in Panchkula, charges the accused under relevant sections of the UA(P) Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Explosive Substances Act. Investigators said the attack was part of a broader conspiracy orchestrated by Bhatti to create terror by targeting police establishments and personnel in India, with Shahzad and Sohail having recruited and radicalised the accused through social media platforms and encrypted communication channels.

NIA investigations revealed that Bhatti had established operational modules in India, with Dheeraj serving as his principal India-based operative responsible for coordinating attacks with local modules. After reconnaissance of potential targets, the accused chose the Sirsa women’s police station, with the accused travelling to Amritsar to procure the grenade used in the attack from Gurjant Singh. The attack was also recorded on a mobile phone for dissemination and publicity. The NIA probe further established a chain of recruitment, financing, operational coordination, procurement of explosives and execution of the terrorist act, with the accused remaining in touch with the Pakistan-based handler after the attack. The agency, which has extensively examined digital, electronic, documentary and forensic evidence, said it is continuing to investigate the larger conspiracy along with other foreign linkages and financial channels involved in the case, while efforts are also being made to track absconding accused.
