DIMAPUR: Churches and fellowships in Dimapur observed Mother’s Day on Sunday with special programmes honouring mothers and paying tribute to departed mothers through songs, prayers and messages of encouragement.
At United Baptist Church (UBC) Toulazouma, the celebration featured tributes where senior mothers presented special songs in remembrance of their late mothers, recalling their love, sacrifices and enduring legacy of faith. Delivering the Mother’s Day message, UBCT pastor Abeni Lotha spoke on the significant role mothers play in shaping families and society. Drawing examples from the Bible, she compared Hannah as a God fearing, faithful and prayerful mother whose legacy reflected humility and trust in God, while contrasting Jezebel as an ungodly mother whose life left behind destruction.
Pastor Abeni encouraged mothers to emulate Hannah’s devotion and prayer life, stressing that a mother’s spiritual foundation can transform families. She reminded the congregation that Mother’s Day is not meant to honour only one individual but to collectively pray for and encourage all mothers. She further urged those whose mothers are no longer alive to celebrate their legacy with gratitude rather than sorrow.
The programme also saw participation from the fathers’ group, who presented a special song dedicated to mothers. An act play depicting two contrasting families highlighted the importance of prayer in shaping households. The event concluded with prayers for mothers and families, with Phongpha Konyak leading the opening prayer.
Meanwhile, the TOAHDCC Senior Citizens Fellowship celebrated Mother’s Day Special at ECH Chapel Hall, Indisen Village under the theme “In His Presence” (Psalm 1:1 3). The service, chaired by Takushilu Lkr, began with praise and worship followed by a song presented by Tzüsa Imchen. A special prayer for mothers was led by Temsunungsang, with gifts presented to honour them. Pastor Sunep Emkong of Set Free Church, Sovima, delivered the message encouraging attendees to dwell in God’s presence.
