UC organises Professional evelopment Programme

The IQAC, Unity College organised a “One Day Professional Development Programme” on September 3 at the College Seminar hall for faculty and staff of the college.
In a press release, IQAC coordinator, Dr. Adani Ngullie informed that resource persons for the programme were Communication Skills Trainer of the college, Vanthunglo Murry and Life Coach Dimapur, Linda Johnson.
The first session focused on the value and importance of effective communication. Communication Skills Trainer, Vanthunglo Murry spoke on the theme, “No One Was Born a Perfect Communicator: Effective Communication.” The speaker noted that effective communication required purposeful effort on our part. It entails confronting issues we don’t want to and that requires us to have courage while also being compassionate and empathetic towards the other person we are communicating with. In the second session Linda Johnson of Life Coach Dimapur, spoke on the theme, “New Breed Leadership”. The resource person contended that we cannot continue to lead using the old school leadership model which is based on domination, intimidation and manipulation. She stated that a new breed leadership model which is based on respect, trust and accountability has become vital today. New breed leaders are innovative, receptive, focused, flexible, inspiring and always striving to make everyone feel empowered. The objective of the workshop was to help the faculty and staffs take a step towards creating a smooth work environment through effective communication and to be good leaders by embracing qualities that characterised new breed leadership.
The staff and faculty interacted enthusiastically with the resource persons as they were apprised about the ways to communicate more effectively and become exemplary leaders. The workshop made it apparent that good leaders are invariably effective communicators.
