University Grants Commission (UGC) has notified as per UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for award of Ph. D and M. Phil degrees) Regulations, 2016, no University/institution was allowed to offer M.Phil and Ph.D. programme through distance learning mode In a notification, secretary UGC, Prof.Jaspal Singh Sandhu, advised students not to take admission in any M.Phil/Ph.D programme, if offered by any university/institution through distance learning mode.
UGC informed that it has allowed Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), and some other State Open Universities to conduct M.Phil/Ph.D. programmes in non-technical programmes in ‘Regular (full-time/part-time) mode’ only provided those universities abide by the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degrees) Regulations, 2016 and have specific approval of the UGC.
