ULB polls: MCCI call for responsible participation

Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) has appealed to all political parties, candidates, voters, and stakeholders to remain calm and participate in the democratic process responsibly, with the future and welfare of the people in mind.

In a statement, MCCI reminded the voters that as four urban local bodies in the district- Mokokchung town, Mangkolemba, Changtongya, and Tuli- go to the polls, they are instituting local self-governance, adding that the future of their towns was literally in their hands.

While urging all to vote judiciously, prayerfully, and with a clear conscience, MCCI also appealed to the concerned authorities to ensure that adequate security measures were in place to prevent any potential violence and to ensure free and fair elections.

It said that the members would be closely observing the proceedings, and the authorities would be held responsible for any security lapses in the district. Further, MCCI appealed to all its members/business community to be more cautious than ever as they cast their valuable votes. Even as the members/businessmen may have their individual personal leanings and political affiliations, MCCI said all must be prudent enough to look beyond the immediate and foresee the future, voting accordingly. It called for electing members who would safeguard the interests of the business community.

With particular reference to Mokokchung town, MCCI said as one of the three municipalities in Nagaland, it was pertinent to mention that the business community has been shouldering the responsibility of sustaining the erstwhile Mokokchung Municipal Council all these years.

“There is a symbiotic relationship between the MMC and the MCCI. This relationship must be maintained for mutual benefit and in the interest of the upkeep of the town. We hope that the newly elected members of the MMC will continue to foster this bond,” it added.
