Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Department has appreciated the ongoing efforts of all 39 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Nagaland under the Swachh Bharat Mission’s “Swachhata Hi Seva” (SHS) Campaign 2025, which will culminate on October 2.
Advisor Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, and Commissioner & Secretary, Kekhrievor Kevichüsa, conveyed their appreciation for the commendable action being undertaken across the State.
This year also marks the launch of the “Swachh Shehar Jodi” (SSJ) initiative by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, which pairs performing ULBs with underperforming ones for 100 days of high-impact partnership. In Nagaland, Jalukie Town Council, winner of the Promising Swachh Shehar Award 2024, will mentor Aboi Town Council. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the two councils on September 27 in a virtual ceremony chaired by Union Minister Manohar Lal and attended by Aboi MLA Manpon C. Konyak.
Meanwhile, State Mission Director SBM-Urban, Kezhochole Rhetso, informed that several legislators have adopted designated dumpsites as Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) to monitor and accelerate their transformation. The adopted sites include: Jalukie (Chuharuau): Dy. CM T.R. Zeliang; Chumoukedima (Vidima): Advisor Zhaleo Rio; Kohima (Dzuruzou): Advisor Kekhrielhoulie Yhome; Phek (Satheri): Azo Nienu MLA; Tseminyu (Thonfpü-a Zülow): AR Jwenga Seb, MLA and Pfutsero (Leboku): Dr. Neisatuo Mero MLA.
The department expressed gratitude for the active involvement of elected representatives, which has provided moral impetus to the ULBs and laid a foundation for sustainable urban sanitation management in Nagaland.
