UNC suspends ongoing‘trade embargo’ in Naga areas

DIMAPUR, SEP 11 (NPN)

United Naga Council (UNC) presidential council has resolved to temporarily suspend the ongoing “Trade Embargo” in Naga areas with effect from 6pm of September 11, 2025.
In a press release, UNC publicity & information secretary H. James Hau informed that decision was taken after Manipur government called for resumption of tripartite meeting of the UNC with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and the Government of Manipur on the issue of abrogation of Free Movement Regime and Border Fencing along the imaginary Indo-Myanmar Border in Naga areas. Following the appeal, Hau said an emergency presidential council meeting of UNC was held at Tahamzam on September 11, 2025.
He said that EPC appreciated the government’s acknowledgement of the past engagement of the UNC and the MHA and also their confirmation of receipt of Memoranda/representation on the issues.
UNC said government’s assurance that there would be prior consultation with UNC and other stakeholders before the stated works were taken up was well received.
Meanwhile, UNC has appreciated all the tribe, women, student & youth organizations and the Naga public in general for their support and solidarity towards the effective observation of the “Trade Embargo.”
UNC launched an indefinite ‘trade embargo’ along national highways to protest scrapping of FMR and fencing along India-Myanmar border.
