UNC welcomes setting up of panel on Naga issue

United Naga Council (UNC) welcomed the formation of Core Committee on the “Indo-Naga” political issue by the Nagaland government and hoped that the committee would be able to intervene and “forge the long and frequent stalemate” taking place in the negotiation between the two parties.

In a press release, UNC president S Kho John and general secretary S Milan suggested inclusion of an elected member each from Assam, Arunachal and Manipur in the core committee for better co-ordination if the criteria of the select committee permits.

UNC expressed belief that the members and representatives of the different political parties in the core committee would “put their best efforts in the interest of the entire Nagalim, with the spirit and soul of the Uniqueness of the Naga History and Situations and in tune with the agreed Historic Framework Agreement signed on 3rd August 2015 at New Delhi to co-exist peacefully as two separate entities.”

Further, the UNC expressed confidence that the core committee members would look beyond their personal interest and groups and politically respond to the call of the Nagas.
