Ungma Village Council has announced that the 25th anniversary celebration of “Rüna Khrietho–Maong Aksü” between Ungma and Touphema villages will be held on May 2 at Ungma village. The announcement was made during a press conference at the Rural Assembly Hall, Ungma.
The Aksü, which signifies the bonding of friendship between the two villages, traces its origin to 2001 during the Sekrenyi Festival at Touphema when Dr. S.C. Jamir was chief minister and Dr. Neiphiu Rio was home minister. This year’s celebration carries the theme “Kaamzemshi” meaning “to bolster amity,” aimed at strengthening unity and friendship between the two villages and more broadly among the Naga family. Chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio will attend the programme as special guest, while former chief minister Dr. S.C. Jamir will be the honoured dignitary. Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer, will serve as chief host.
Explaining the uniqueness of Maong Aksü, Tatar of Ungma Village Council said it signifies blessings between two distinguished personalities, making it distinct from other forms of Aksü. Ungma Kosasanger Pusu Menden extended a cordial invitation to all Nagas and well-wishers to witness the historic occasion.
Meanwhile, on May 1, a social and cultural exchange programme between Touphema Students’ Union and Soyim Shisaluyimer Telongjem will be held at Naro Tekong, Ungma village.
