Units support for ‘majority group’ led NPF

NPF 51 Noksen A/C: Naga People’s Front (NPF) 51 Noksen assembly constituency (A/C) has extended support to the leadership of G Kaito Aye, NPF legislature party leader, and the newly elected NPF president Noke Wangnao for strengthening the party.
In a press release, NPF unit president L Tochi Chang stated that 51 A/C was shocked at the action taken by former NPF president Dr. Shurhozelie, on suspension of nine NPF legislators from the party, “which is unacceptable and misuse of president’s power.”
NPF 51 A/C unit also demanded that chief minister TR Zeliang gracefully step down from the chair, saying he had no right to hold the public office since the majority of legislators were with G Kaito Aye.
NPF 43 Tapi A/C: Naga People’s Front (NPF) 43 Tapi assembly constituency (A/C) has condemned the suspension and expulsion of Noke Wangnao, by Dr. Shürhozelie, and described his act as “arbitrary, dictatorial and autocratic.”
In a press release, NPF Tapi unit president N. Poying and general secretary N. Loipang reminded Dr. Shürhozelie of his tenure in 1998 when he did not issue any party tickets resulting in the victory of Congress party unopposed.
Further, the unit leaders said in 1999 Dr. Shürhozelie resigned from the regional party and contested from Independent ticket for Lok Sabha election.
Noke Wangnao, the signatories said was one of the pioneers and builders of the regional party in Nagaland. In fact, the unit said he was the senior most party worker and the only surviving pioneer in the present legislative assembly.
As being loyal, they said Noke has not deviated on any occasion from the principles of the cock symbol party.
Stating that there was no other leader in the regional party who was more senior to Noke, not even the NPF president, Tapi NPF unit leaders said present political situation was only a move by a majority of NPF MLAs to change the leadership of the NPF Legislature Party.
Therefore, the signatories stated that there was no question of any anti-party action on the part of any of the NPF legislators who unanimously supported the leadership of Kaito Aye.
They said Dr. Shürhozelie needed to be reminded that the MLAs carry the mandate of the Naga people and he had no authority or morale right to suspend or expel MLAs who have been elected under the most difficult circumstances. “His desperate and personal agenda does not empower him to suspend or expel MLAs who carry the voice of the people,” signatories said.
