United Naga Tribes Association of Border Areas (UNTABA) has resolved to vigorously pursue bringing back all the alienated traditional and historical Naga lands which was arbitrarily transferred by the then British Imperial, Government of India, from 19 Century onwards to Assam in accordance with the representation submitted to the Prime Minister, Government of India, on November 10, 2014.
The resolution to this effect was taken during an executive meeting of the United Naga Tribes Association of Border Areas (UNTABA) held at Unity Hall, Naga Council, Dimapur, on January 9.
Towards this end, UNTABA has decided to explore all possible means democratically including legal course and fight both the Government of India and Assam until the demand of the Naga people are completely fulfilled as per the political agreements made between the Government of India and the Naga people prior to the establishment of Nagaland Statehood.
Stating this in a joint press release, UNTABA chairman Hukavi T Yepthomi and the joint secretary Yanger Sangtam said Naga people should no longer recognize the so called ‘Disputed Area Belt’ unilaterally imposed by the Government of Assam in all the Naga areas bordering Assam, adding the people of Nagaland should no longer recognize various ‘Interim Agreements’ made between the two States since the Government of Assam had arbitrarily abrogated all the terms of agreements made from 1972 onwards in order to unlawfully encroach on large areas of Naga lands.
In this connection, UNTABA has decided to work in close co-ordination with the Government of Nagaland and initiate appropriate course of action to thwart any unilateral action of the Government of Assam against the interest of the people of Nagaland.
