In commemoration of the “Meri Life, Mera Swachh Shehar” project which was launched under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Upper Agri Colony Kohima set up a Reduce Reuse Recycle (RRR) centre at their panchayat hall.
Upper Agri Panchayat chairman, Mhasisalie Solo mentioned that people have started distributing their reusable items such as clothes, electronics, books, utensils and other unused, used products in the centres. He added that people have not only donated but have also come to pick reusable items.
He informed that this program was conducted by Kohima Municipal Council on May 19, where they requested each ward to start the movement of RRR from May 26 to June 5.
The chairman added that they have segregated all items such as electronics, clothes, utensils, shoes and kids toys to make it easier for public to both donate and pick the items they needed.
He also informed that the centre is kept open 24/7 everyday where people can donate their reusable/non-reusable items.
Solo also said that this way, they will reduce lots of waste at the same time helping one another by exchanging their reusable products. He said there was nothing to be ashamed in donating old or recycled items in the centre nor be ashamed to pick anything that one needed from the centre.
He said the remaining products which are not picked by public will be sent to KMC office Kohima.
