DIMAPUR, MAY 23 (NPN): The United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji (USLP) has declared “non-cooperation” against GPRN/NSCN (Niki) within the entire Sangtam jurisdiction, including five Sangtam villages under Dimapur district, over an alleged extortion case involving the group’s cadres.
In a declaration issued after a joint meeting with Longkhim-Chare Area GBs Union and village head GBs of Longkhim-Chare area held at Longkhim town on May 21, USLP stated that the issue pertained to alleged extortion of cash, groceries and other items from commercial vehicles between Kiding village and Chare town on November 30, December 2 and December 3, 2025.
USLP said it swiftly took up the matter and directed Chare Area GBs Union (CAGU) to inquire about the groups involved as the incident took place under CAGU jurisdiction.
After investigation, USLP claimed that the persons involved were from GPRN/NSCN (Niki) group. It stated that a meeting was subsequently held on December 15, 2025 with representatives of the group led by chairman Sangtam Region, GPRN/NSCN (Niki), during which the chairman allegedly admitted involvement of the cadres in the extortion activities. USLP said the group agreed to identify and apprehend the culprits and produce them before CAGU on or before December 30, 2025.
It also stated that an agreement was signed declaring that in the event of any untoward incident involving leaders or members of CAGU, GPRN/NSCN (Niki) would be held solely responsible.
Subsequently, USLP said a meeting was fixed for December 20, 2025 with the condition to present the culprits in the court. However, USLP said the names of the accused cadres were not disclosed by the group’s Home Affairs and also failed to produce the culprits.
Accordingly, another agreement was reportedly signed declaring: (i) non-cooperation with the group until the case was resolved; (ii) to suspend cadres belonging to Chare area, and shall not be held accountable by the area in the event of any situation that may arise in dispense of the cadres; and (iii) publication of the agreement in the media.
In the light of the above, USLP stated that after thoroughly studying the case chronologically, it observed that even the higher authorities had deliberately failed to cooperate and instead allegedly sheltered the accused persons, adding that such an attitude endangered cordial relations in society.
Accordingly, USLP said it had unanimously resolved to declare non-cooperation against the GPRN/NSCN (Niki) with effect from May 21, 2026, until the case was settled by bringing the accused persons before the office of the USLP.
