USSC, ENSF express gratitudefor support after Sep 20 incident

DIMAPUR, SEP 23 (NPN)

United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) and Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) have expressed its deepest gratitude for the invaluable assistance and timely intervention following the unfortunate incident involving one of its student, S. Liseri Sangtam, at The Assam Kaziranga University on September 20.
In a note of gratitude, USSC president Adekhing I Sangtam and general secretary Tsathronglit Sangtam extended profound appreciation to Temjen Imna Along, minister of Tourism and Higher Education, and Benjamin Yepthomi, State BJP president, for their leadership and unwavering support.
USSC also acknowledged the vice chancellor of The Assam Kaziranga University, DGP Nagaland, DCs of Kiphire and Mokokchung, SPs of Mokokchung, Kiphire and Jorhat, SDPO Mangkolemba and administrators from Tuli for their professional and efficient handling of the situation.
Further, it extended thanks to the ENSF, Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Naga Students’ Union Jorhat (NSUJ), All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Naga student leaders, boys hostel warden of The Assam Kaziranga University, students of the university and all individuals and groups who helped bring the situation under control.
Particular appreciation was expressed to the Nagaland government for its crucial support, including provision of eight buses with seven-eight security escorts, besides the presence of SP, ASI, Sub-Magistrate and eight-nine convoys of armed forces which ensured safety of students and peaceful resolution of the incident.
USSC assured that it had taken serious note of the incident and committed to ensure such misconduct would not be repeated by any of its students. It said stricter internal guidelines and awareness programmes would be implemented to promote discipline, mutual respect and responsibility among members.
Expressing deep concern over the unauthorized recording and circulation of a video of the incident on social media, USSC said such actions aggravated the situation and intruded upon the privacy and dignity of those involved. It appealed to citizens to refrain from such acts in the future.
On behalf of the Sangtam Students Community, USSC expressed appreciation to every citizen for their understanding and assistance, and made a humble appeal for peace, unity and harmony in society and the nation.
ENSF: Eastern Naga Students’ Federation conveyed its gratitude and appreciation to the chief ministers of Nagaland and Assam, deputy chief minister & home minister Nagaland, minister of Higher Education & Tourism, DGP Nagaland and Assam, deputy commissioners of Dimapur, Mokokchung and Jorhat, AASU, ASU, NSF, NSUJ and police authorities for their timely intervention and immediate response to the call of the federation during the unfortunate incident that occurred at Kaziranga University, Assam, over derogatory remarks made by a student.
ENSF president Nuheymong Yim and secretary Atoy Phom in a statement said it was especially grateful and placed on record its sincere acknowledgement of the leadership, concerted efforts and close coordination extended from all ends, which ensured the safe return of the students to Nagaland.
The federation stated that the prompt action not only safeguarded the well-being of the students but also brought immense relief and reassurance to their families and the student community at large.
ENSF acknowledged with the highest regard the dedication, cooperation and assistance rendered by all agencies involved. It said such timely support reflected the spirit of responsibility and collective concern for the welfare of the people. The federation said it looked forward to the same spirit of cooperation and partnership in the future while working together for the safety, welfare and progress of students and society.
While extending appreciation, ENSF also expressed sympathy with those students affected by the incident involving one of its members. It prayed for the situation to return to normalcy and for the smooth completion of their academics.
