DIMAPUR, JUN 19 (NPN): University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has announced exclusive scholarships for 50 students from Nagaland, aimed at promoting educational empowerment and regional participation. The announcement was made at a press conference held at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, ahead of the Institutional Excellence Award–2026 and felicitation of NBSE HSSLC Top Achievers–2026 scheduled for June 20 at Town Hall, Dimapur.
USTM chancellor Mahbubul Hoque informed that 10 outstanding students, including state toppers and high achievers, will receive full scholarships covering academic fees.
Another 15 students will be granted a 50% tuition fee waiver, while 25 students will receive a monthly scholarship of Rs. 2,000 to support educational expenses. Scholarships will be awarded on a merit cum means basis, with priority given to talented students from modest financial backgrounds.
Hoque highlighted that scholarship recipients must maintain satisfactory academic performance and at least 85% attendance to continue receiving benefits. He also noted that USTM plans to introduce a scholarship test from next year for both 10+2 and graduate students, with merit and family background carrying significant weightage.
Sharing the publisher’s note, Hoque said two faculty members of USTM have recently been ranked among the top 5% of scientists globally, reflecting the university’s growing academic recognition. He added that the institution provides placement support, particularly for professional courses, with opportunities depending on student performance.
USTM vice chancellor Prof. Dr. G.D. Sharma emphasized the university’s focus on inclusive, student centric education, ensuring financial constraints do not hinder access to higher studies.
He highlighted early adoption of NEP 2020, promotion of multidisciplinary learning, industry collaborations, and support for innovation and entrepreneurship, noting over 30 student led start ups and significant government funding.
The scholarship programme is exclusively for fresh applicants from Nagaland seeking admission to USTM, requiring a minimum of 80% marks in qualifying examinations. Admissions are currently open, and details are available on the university website. For queries, contact 9508444000 or 8472930471.
The Institutional Excellence Award–2026 will be conferred on select institutions from Nagaland on June 20, alongside the felicitation of NBSE HSSLC Top Achievers–2026 and a lecture on “NEP 2020 & Career Opportunities.” The event will be graced by minister of Tourism & Higher Education Temjen Imna Along and other dignitaries.
