DIMAPUR: Kohima College Kohima, Government High School (GHS) Tseminyu New Town and City Law College Students’ Union on separate occasion, celebrated Teachers Day on September 3.
Kohima College: Kohima College, Kohima observed Teachers’ Day bringing together students and faculty to honour teachers for their guidance, dedication and contribution to shaping students’ lives.
Delivering the welcome address, principal Kohima College, Dr. Vitsosie Vüprü, extended Teachers’ Day greetings and described teachers as the “change makers of our life”. He also thanked students for organising the celebration and stressed the importance of teachers’ expertise and presence in the classroom.
He further reminded students that teachers should be respected and honoured not only on Teachers’ Day but every day.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Wati Lkr (GS) extended Teachers’ Day greetings to the teachers and emphasised that the occasion should be more than an annual celebration. He added that teachers mould students’ lives and often recognise their potential even when they fail to see it themselves.
Referring to the words of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Henry Adams, he highlighted the lasting influence of teachers.
Meanwhile, in her address on behalf of teachers, assistant professor, English Department, Dr. Theyiesinuo Keditsu, reflected on responsibilities and challenges of teaching. She emphasised that one of the greatest responsibilities of a teacher was to cultivate the capacity to be taught.
She noted that students themselves were teachers to their educators, challenging assumptions, revealing shortcomings and encouraging teachers to improve.
Dr. Keditsu further stressed that teaching is a relationship in which students and teachers must meet each other halfway. “Students should ask questions, express concerns and challenge assumptions when necessary”, she stated. She further highlighted the vision of higher education as a shared learning journey in which teachers and students walk side by side, with teachers serving as facilitators and guides.
She concluded by describing Teachers’ Day as a celebration of both teacher and student as lifelong learners, each capable of learning from and teaching the other.
She also expressed gratitude to her colleagues and thanked the students for honouring the teaching fraternity.
The programme featured cultural presentations, including “An Ode to My Teachers” by Mhaleyonuo Khezhie, a special number by Atsolü and special appearance by The Tri Ds.
GHS Tseminyu New Town: Government High School (GHS), Tseminyu New Town, celebrated Pre–Teacher’s Day at Town Hall, Tseminyu Town, on September 3, with an aim of honouring dedication and invaluable contribution of teachers in shaping the lives and future of students.
The special guest, EAC (Hq), Tseminyu, Omajen Ozukum, addressing the gathering, conveyed his warm wishes to the teaching fraternity and shared that the dedication and guidance of his teachers had played important role in his journey to becoming an NCS officer.
He described teachers as those who “bring light into the lives of students” by moulding their character, shaping their abilities and imparting valuable skills.
He further urged students to uphold values of respect, discipline, humility and hard work, stressing that such qualities were essential for achieving success in life.
Drawing an analogy, Ozukum remarked that students were like money deposited in a bank by teachers, which grows and yields greater value with time.
He emphasised that teachers invest their knowledge, time and dedication in students, whose achievements ultimately reflect the fruits of that investment.
He later encouraged students to make the best use of the educational opportunities available to them, noting that government school teachers are highly qualified and capable of providing quality education and guidance.
Delivering the welcome address, Headmaster GHS Tseminyu New Town, Chegeseng Kath, also extended warm Teacher’s Day greetings to all present and described teachers as the “architects of students’ careers”, highlighting their vital role in nurturing young minds and guiding them towards a brighter future.
The celebration featured colourful presentations by students, including group songs, drama, dance and speeches, showcasing their talents and creativity.
City Law College Students’ Union: The City Law College Students’ Union (CLC-SU) organized a Teachers’ Day celebration on Thursday at the College Moot Court Hall under the theme “Beyond the Books”, honouring the dedication and invaluable contributions of teachers.
The programme was hosted by Imtisangla Longchari, a first-semester student, with the opening prayer offered by Hitono Yeptho of the third semester.
The welcome address was delivered by president of CLC-SU, Chailong Chungdok, followed by a fun time performance by Toina of the fifth semester. A students’ tribute was presented by Rongsentila of the third semester, while Ruksana of the third semester recited Emily Dickinson.
Students also presented tokens of appreciation to the faculty, after which a heartfelt Teachers’ Message was delivered by assistant professor Abigail Yepthomi.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by general secretary of CLC-SU, Viboto Kiba and a benediction by Dr. Nzanthung of the third semester.
The celebration was a heartfelt expression of gratitude from students, recognising the teachers’ enduring role in shaping not only their academic journey but also their character and lives.
