Students in large number observed the Gandhi Jayanti with great enthusiasm at the programmes organized by District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Kiphire on Tuesday.
The programme was graced by SDO (C) Longtiba Sangtam as special guest.
In his speech, SDO said that this was the first ever celebration conducted in a grand manner in Kiphire town where activities such as painting and essay competitions were conducted. He said that the day was also observed as International non-violence day.
Citing the example of Gandhiji, the SDO said that “one should apply non violence in the society and have a quest to go with forgive and forget policy”.
The special guest also said that the vision of Ghandhiji was for “Free India and Clean India”, and therefore appealed to the gathering to start cleanliness in their family and within.
He further appealed to the students to join hands so that Swachh Bharath Mission in the district could be accomplished.
Project Director, DRDA Kiphire, T.Setsathong Sangtam, in his key note address appealed to the students to learn from the life of Ghandhiji and fight against violence. The programme was chaired by investigator, DRDA Kiphire, Atoka K while vote of thanks was delivered by BDO Sitimi, Dr.Senliwati Longkumer.
Earlier, painting competition was held for all the schools in Kiphire town. Holila of Loyola Higher Secondary School Kiphire, Alingla T Sangtam of Saramati View Modern School and Lidise of Cambridge School Kiphire bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively. Three consolation prizes were also given to three students from Holy Cross School, Saramati View Modern School and Good Shepherd School Kiphire.
MGM: MGM College celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with special meeting conducted at the seminar hall, where principal Fr. Dr. Shibu Varghese spoke about the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi and enlightened the students.
A press release from MGM College media cell stated that, student representatives spoke on the occasion along with competitions conducted about Gandhi’s works and philosophy.
In order to highlight Gandhi’s great philosophy “Peace”, the faculty members along with students conducted a peace rally from college to Dhobinala junction. A mass cleanliness drive was also conducted by students as part of the culmination of Swachhta Hi Sewa campaign which was inaugurated on September 16 at college campus.
UCTE: Unity College of Teacher Education (UCTE), Dimapur conducted competition of “plays on Mahatma Gandhi” on his 149th birth anniversary at seminar hall, UCTE on Tuesday.
A press release from UCTE principal, Dr. T. Yolila Sangtam stated that, the students actively participated in the competition and enacted a play on varied themes reflecting the life of Gandhi and the freedom struggle. The 3rd semester section-‘B’ emerged as the winner of the competition with their play on the theme, “The Champaran Satyagraha”. The 2nd prize was bagged by the 1st semester section-‘B’ on the theme, “Untouchability and Religious Tolerance”. The 3rd position was secured by the 1st semester section –‘A’ and the 3rd semester section–‘A’ on the themes, “Serendipity in Mahatma’s Life” and “Be the Change” respectively.
SC Shamator: Shamator College (SC), Shamator, Tuensang celebrated the 149th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with the theme “Life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi” with Limakumla Pongener, EAC Shamator as guest speaker on October 2. Quiz and painting competitions on the theme were also conducted.
Nagaland Gandhi Ashram: Along with the rest of the nation, Nagaland Gandhi Ashram, NIELIT and Tata Institute of Social Sciences, MGAHD, Chuchuyimlang on Tuesday celebrated the 149th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the Nation at the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram Complex.
A press release by NIELIT extension centre stated that TISS, MGAHD, programme director, Sudharshan Rodriguez spoke on the principles and values showed by Mahatma Gandhi’s life and added that his teachings was relevant even today.
In the programme, Urban Station Committee, Chuchuyimlang, vice chairman, Zulutemba, gave away prizes for an art competition which was held earlier.
