Various programmes, activities organised for students & faculty

As part of academic and extracurricular activities, educational institutions and other organisations and departments conducted various programmes for the students, teaching and non-teaching staff.


TSU: Tsütuonomia Students’ Union (TSU) organised the 6th annual literary day cum HSLC and HSSLC felicitation 2023 at T Khel GMS, Rüzie, Kohima Village.
Exhorting as special guest, Deputy Director, Department of Social welfare, T Neingusalie Zatsu lauded the students for their achievements reminding them that it was the first step to success.
He encouraged them to harness the available technologies for their benefit and harbour the spirit of success to achieve their goals. On the occasion, in memory of late Er. Ruokuobiezo Solo, Dr. Theyiephrezo Khimiao presented a cash award and citation to the best matriculate 2023, Neiseinuo Suohu, daughter of Dr Selhounyü Suohu, who secured 97.65% in the recent HSLC examination.


Earlier, welcome address was delivered by president, TSU, Mhasisetuo Solo, invocation by associate pastor, CRC, Rokabozou. Activities such as solo singing competition, Painting, Sketching, spelling bee, elocution, debate MO, OST, Jakhama , Dr Keneilhoulie Medom, on highlighting on the awareness of drugs, emphasized that drug addiction should be treated as a disease, which required proper medication and support and not merely nabbing them in a lockup and adhering violence and stressed on the Opioid substitution therapy (OST) , which was a process in which opioid-dependent injecting drug users are provided with long acting opioid agonist medications for a long period and also clarified that there had also been several misconceptions about the OST and spoke on its benefits for the addicts. activities such as solo singing competition, Painting, Sketching, spelling bee, elocution, debate and quiz etc were conducted. PCC: One-day skill enhancement workshop was organised by the department of education, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) marking the third anniversary of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) on July 29 at its college premise.
During the workshop, dean of social science, Neilevono Vupru, while informing the students about the workshop, urged them to learn from the resource persons and make the best out of the shared time.


In her exhortation, HoD, mass communication PCC, Dr Dakter Esse said NEP-2020 underlines the importance of skills to address the issue of unemployment, and lamented how unemployment has become a challenge not just for the government but also educational institutions.
Dr Esse also informed that the skill-based learning that educational institutes guided under NEP 2020 are encouraging was to emphasise on developing practical skills and competencies that applies to real work situation.


Stressing on the importance of holistic learning, Dr. Esse said skill enhancement workshops will make students ready for employability indicating that it would encourage entrepreneurship by way of acquiring skills and capitalising on it.
The workshop for the day was conducted on “embroidery” and “dao making”, where students were given first hand training on the basics of stitching and dao making.


NPC: Norman Putsure College (NPC) Chumoukedima organised a skill class on pisciculture for the 3rd Semester students on July 29, wherein the students visited the fishing sites. A detailed explanation of the fish rearing process was given through demonstration which included the process of fertilization and packaging. Students were also provided with other information on their transportation and the necessary equipment required. Later. the fertilised fishes were release into the fishery pond. NPC said the main objective of the skill class was to enrich and broaden the students’ interest through hands- on- experience.


NEISSR: North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) organised parent-teacher association meeting on July 29. In a welcome address, NEISSR principal, Dr. Fr. C.P. Anto encouraged parents to share suggestions for improvement of the institute and students towards achieving the goal of fostering better individuals in society. At the programme, assistant professor, Elizabeth Pojar, presented about the curricular and extra-curricular activities of NEISSR. Dr. Fr. Matthew Thuniampral, a governing board member, highlighted the institute’s commitment to providing new opportunities for students and emphasized the importance of collaborative learning between students and teachers to achieve academic excellence.


On behalf of parents and guardians, Myanthung Ngullie stressed on the importance of communication between the college, students, and parents. SJC (A): St. Joseph’s College (A), Jakhama celebrated its “36th Freshers’ Day” on July 29 at the at the College Indoor Stadium with TaFMA chairman, Theja Meru as the guest speaker. In his speech, Meru encouraged the students to dream big and drew life examples on how one should dream big to achieve big things in life. He pressed them to work hard saying that one has to, anyway, pay the price for success.


SCHE: Salesian College of Higher Education (SCHE) Dimapur celebrated its annual freshers meet on July 29 at Bernick Hall with the theme, “Beginning of a New Journey to Learning”. At the programme, guest speaker, director of the college, Rev. V. A. Thomas exhorted the new students to be focused and receptive as there would be many hurdles and challenges to overcome, opportunities to explore and many successes to be seen in future.


MCCK: Model Christian College, Kohima (MCCK) organised its annual “Parents/Guardians Forum [PGF] and Teachers meet” July 29 at the College Auditorium. During the meeting, the Managing Director of the college, S.P. Francis, exhorted the parents and teachers to work together in making responsible citizens. MCCK principal, Dr. Luke Rymbai highlighted the new academic curriculum and stressed on the importance of the new education system.


PGC: As per the national state legal services authority, common action plan, a legal awareness programme was conducted by the District Legal Services Authority, Phek on July 28 Phek Government College. During the programme, resource person, panel lawyer cum advocate, DLSA, Phek, Thomeweu highlighted the gathering on various legal provisions and facilities available within the district with a special focus on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The talk concluded with an interactive session.


SJU: One day workshop on “awareness and motivational talk on skill” was organised by the Department of Economics and IQAC cell St Joseph University, Chumoukedima in collaboration with the Directorate of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship on July 28 at SJU Chumoukedima.


A talk on unemployment scenario in Nagaland was delivered by Directorate of Employment, Skill development and Entrepreneurship, deputy director, Er. Alongse Sangtam during the first session. In the second session, a talk on various skilling activities was delivered by senior inspector of the department, Menguzelie Suhu while a talk on entrepreneurship was delivered by Er Alongse Sangtam at the third session.


KV Kohima: Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Kohima celebrated the 3rd year of implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, wherein principal of the school, Santosh Kumar Roy spoke on various aspects of NEP 2020.


At the programme, TGT Bio, Jatta Shankar highlighted the gathering on vision of NEP 2020 and background of NEP 2020 while PRT Music, Avinash Shelar focused on re-alignment of admission age and NIPUN initiatives; PRT, Amit Kumar spoke on information Balvatika, Vidya Pravesh, National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF FS) while TGT Maths Jagdeep Kumar Singh and TGT Hindi, Rakesh Kumar spoke on implementation of NEP 2020 in Kendriya Vidyalaya.


PGC: Peren Government College (PGC), Peren organised its 36th Fresher’s Meet 2023 on July 28 at the College Auditorium, wherein the college principal Dr. Phyobenthung welcomed the freshers and exhorted the students to be sincere and make best use of the available yet limited resources.
SXC Jalukie: An awareness programme on “Consumer’s Rights” was organised by Peren District Voluntary Consumer’s Organization (PDVCO) in collaboration with the Consumer’s Club St. Xavier’s College Jalukie Town on July 27 at the College Auditorium.


SC: National Cadet Corps (NCC) of Sazolie College held a freshers’ orientation program on July 27 at the College Auditorium Hall with commanding officer, Col Manjeet Katoch, 1 Naga Girls Bn NCC, as the guest speaker. In his speech, Col Manjeet motivated and encouraged the students to consider joining the NCC, shedding light on the positive impact and invaluable experiences that NCC offers to its members. He also provided a detailed overview of the organization, including its aims, motto, and rich history.


SSP: As part of the Group Level All India Sainik Schools National Games (AISSNG) 2023, English and Hindi Debate Competitions was held on July 25-26 at Sainik School Punglwa. The motion for the English and Hindi debate were, ‘Chat GPT is a boon or curse for future generation’ and ‘Smart Phone is an indirect attack on student’s creativity’ respectively. In the competition, SSP was placed first and second in the Hindi and English Debate Competitions respectively while Sainik School Goalpara secured first and second position in the Hindi and English Debate Competitions respectively.


JNV Mon: To celebrate the 3rd anniversary of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and its achievements, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Mon organised a press meet on July 26 at District Education Office, Mon. Speaking at the event as chief guest, District Education Officer (DEO) Mon, I. Moala Aier lauded the efforts of all stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and students, for their dedication in making NEP-2020 a “resounding success” in Mon. She also emphasized the policy’s role in fostering critical thinking, creativity, and an all-round development of students, preparing them for the challenges of the 21st century. During the event, various achievements and milestones attained through NEP-2020 were presented by JNV Mon principal, Tajber Singh, showcasing how the policy has positively impacted education in the district. The audience was informed about the significant improvements in school infrastructure, teacher training programs, digital learning initiatives, and the commendable rise in enrolment rates.


MHSS: Modern Higher Secondary School (MHSS) organised “Parent’s Day” on July 22, wherein the students presented various activities and performances like poem recitation, song, dance, fancy show. Around 180 parents attended the programme.
MC: Modern College (MC) Piphema held its “4th Graduation Day” on July 21 with pro-vice chancellor, Nagaland University (NU) Kohima Campus, Meriema, professor G T Thong as special guest.


During the programme, professor Thong challenged the graduates to be risk takers, grow beyond mediocrity and to use their grit and determination to achieve their goals. He also implored the students to become responsible stewards of the environment. A total of 49 graduates were also handed certificates by academic officer, Keleseno Longkumer while prayer of blessings for the graduates was pronounced by EU senior advisor, Mhasikhotso Shüya.


ARPHS: Assam Rifles (AR) conducted tree plantation drive under the theme, “Invest in Our Planet” on July 23 at Assam Rifles Public High School, Jalukie of Peren district. The children also delivered speeches and poems on the theme. The event was concluded with tree plantation drive by children and the teachers. A total of 14 teachers and 67 children participated in the event.
