An electrical pole was allegedly knocked down by a vehicle at Industrial Estate Colony late Sunday night, resulting in a complete power blackout across the area.
According to residents, the incident occurred between 8:30pm and 9pm when a white Renault Duster collided with the pole and fled the scene.
Witnesses claimed the driver appeared to be in an intoxicated state at the time of the accident.
Speaking to Nagaland Post over phone, Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) vice president Nzanbemo Lotha confirmed that an FIR has been lodged on Monday against the individual responsible for the destruction of public property.
Nzanbemo Lotha urged the person involved to come forward, take responsibility, and repair the damaged pole, suggesting the matter could be resolved amicably.
He clarified that DUCCF would decide on withdrawing the FIR only after meeting the individual concerned.
Echoing similar views, DUCCF vice president Tongzuk Pongen stated that if the person accepted moral responsibility for the damage, the federation would deliberate and consider withdrawing the FIR.
This development follows a recent similar incident on Tajen Ao Road, Dimapur, where DUCCF had filed an FIR over the destruction of a road divider and traffic infrastructure.
In that case, the FIR was later withdrawn after the accused assured repair of the damaged property.
