Vendors warned against Sunday trade

DIMAPUR, OCT 7 (NPN): Street Vendors Association Nagaland (SVAN) has warned street vendors and hawkers operating in Dimapur against violating restrictions on commercial activities during Sunday morning worship hours.
SVAN through its media & publicity cell said an internal survey conducted across several commercial areas from around 4.30am on Sunday found that a number of hawkers and vendors, including those arriving from Assam, were opening for business during restricted hours.
It identified Durga Mandir, Netaji Colony, Marwaripati, New Market, Supermarket, Railway Bazaar, Hazipark (Hong Kong Market) and Blue Hill Station area as focal points where such activities had been reported. Stating that people respect all faiths in Nagaland—a predominantly Christian state, SVAN called for respecting Sunday worship and urged vendors to observe restrictions on commercial activities during worship hours.
It said vendors violating the directives would face enforcement action in coordination with local authorities, including possible fines. SVAN said exemptions provided under guidelines issued by colony councils and municipal council allowed certain essential services to operate after noon on Sundays. These included local vendors dealing in essential and perishable food commodities.
All other general commercial vending, hawking and roadside stalls, however, would remain closed during the restricted worship hours, it said. SVAN urged local and visiting vendors to comply with the directives to avoid possible enforcement action, confiscation of goods or financial penalties. It also sought cooperation from colony councils, organisations and the public in maintaining peace, order and socio-religious decorum of the community.
