
Minister for road and bridges, Vikheho Swu Monday inaugurated the newly constructed “Sanuoru subway” – the main road leading to Nagaland Civil Secretariat.
The sub way stretching around 150 meters was constructed after the road had to be cut off to let flow the accumulated rain water of Sanuoru River in August this year.
Speaking at the brief inaugural function, Vikheho lamented on the lack of civic sense among the citizens where most of the drains get clogged due to dumped waste.
He expressed hope that this incident would be an eye opener and appealed to the people in keeping the drains clean so that this kind of incident not repeated.
The minister also thanked L. Khel for their co-operation and particularly forest minister Dr. Nicky and parliamentary secretary Khriehu Liezietsu for personally supervising the work till completion.
On land ownership issue, he appealed to the land owners to have consideration for any developmental project so that state could prosper.
Vikheho further also thanked the department for their efforts to open subway on time
He said it was a lesson for the department as well and added that there was a need to create awareness on waste management.
According to the department, the subway was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 2 crore.
At present the subway would be opened for light vehicles and for this the department appealed all commuters to co-operate with the traffic regulation.
