Minister for Roads and Bridges Vikheho Swu, Thursday said self sustenance was one of the biggest challenge faced by the present generation in Naga society.
Speaking at Sakipheto Range Students’ Union (SRSU) 15th annual session at Alato Village, Pherima, Vikheho called upon the youth to take up various occupations such as indigenous handicrafts, mithun rearing etc. as government job alone cannot suffice the growing population.
Citing Sakipheto area as a viable hotspot for any kind of business and other developmental activities due to its geographical placement, Vikheho urged the people of the area to be smart in utilizing the advantage to its maximum potential.
Vikheho also expressed happiness to be a part of the students’ session but at the same time lamented that although Nagas in all parts of the state give huge support to the student bodies in all their activities it was the student leaders themselves who are lacking to properly manage their unions in the right direction.
He exhorted the students not to become leaders merely to look for shortcuts to earn huge resources quickly but to work for the students’ community sincerely and diligently. Vikheho also urged the students present to value time and make good use of it.
Students from various ranges clad in traditional attires performed folk songs and dances during the inaugural programme. Other activities for the annual sessions included games and sports, seminars and devotions. The closing programme will be held on January 8.
