IMPHAL, Sep 19: Violent protest erupted in Manipur Kangpokpi district late on Saturday following arrest of six persons suspected to be militants by the security forces.
Reports said that six suspected Kuki militants were arrested by personnel of the CoBRA unit of the CRPF during an operation near Chawangkining, a Naga village in Kangpokpi district where suspected Kuki militants attacked and torched at least two houses recently.
Though further details could not be available till the time of filing this report, reliable sources identified the six suspects as Seilet, Manglen, Sathao, Lenlal, Gin and GL Chuchung.
After the news of the arrest of the six suspects spread, residents of Kangpokpi district headquarters, mostly womenfolk, carried out protests on the streets across the Kangpokpi town.
Videos viral on the social media but could not immediately be varied saw the protesters protesting on the streets while pelting stones toward the security vehicles.
