CHENNAI, JUN 11 (PTI): The Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar 2026 was presented to outstanding railway employees, top-performing divisions, workshops, depots, and offices during the 71st Railway Week Celebrations at ICF here on Thursday. The Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram divisions were jointly awarded the Inter-Divisional Overall Efficiency shield and runner-up shield to the Tiruchirappalli division. Presiding over the function, Southern Railway General Manager R N Singh lauded the awardees for their significant contribution to the progress and efficiency of Indian railways. Praising the divisions and workshops for their stellar performance, he highlighted the zone’s achievements in commissioning major infrastructure projects, upgrading track and signalling infrastructure, increasing sectional speeds, introducing modern coaches, and substantially improving passenger amenities and on-board services. A special film showcasing Southern Railway’s key achievements during the financial year 2025-26 was screened on the occasion.
A total of 38 efficiency shields were awarded to various divisions, workshops, and units that excelled in diverse facets of railway operations.
Additionally 101 employees of Southern Railway – comprising 28 officers and 73 staff – were honoured with the Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar for meritorious individual performance, according to a release from Chief Public Relations Officer S N Narain.
Two students of railway schools who excelled in Class X and Class XII – Kartyayini Renu and Niranian P Rajesh, respectively – were felicitated and presented with merit certificates.
Additional General Manager Vipin Kumar, Principal Chief Personnel Officer A Narayanan and other officials participated.
