Viswema youth celebrate platinum jubilee

Viswema Youth Organisation celebrated its platinum jubilee on Friday with feasts and traditional songs during an event at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School ground in the heart of the village.

Speaking as the guest, Advisor, Youth Resources and Sports, Zale Neikha said people should not expect development only from the government but also begin it from an individual and village level as well.

He said that developmental activities such as constructing washrooms and toilets would go a long way in beautifying a village and inculcate hygienic lifestyles among the people.

Drawing the gathered people to the theme of the Jubilee, “Tapayalo”, loosely translated as “to emerge”, he pointed out that they have to come out of negative habits like jealousy, ism and disunity.

“When you see someone doing something good don’t try to drag that person down, instead offer your assistance in whichever way you can and be the reason behind their success”, Neikha said.

He remarked that envy and jealousy among the people were two big obstacles on the path to success rendering all effort for unity useless.

Echoing chief minister, Neiphiu Rio’s call to cultivate work culture among the Nagas, Neikha, who is also a native of Viswema, encouraged the people to not be ashamed of engaging in manual labour to earn one’s livelihood.

“Our land is blessed with a lot of natural resources. We own the most number of mountains including Tempfü which has a height of 2994 metres. Therefore all these should inspire us to bring laurels to our village and people”, Neikha said.

Earlier, Neikha unveiled the jubilee monolith and later conveyed jubilee greetings sent by CM and minister for Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along.

A group of 75 warriors in full traditional attire led the village to the celebratory event.

The host of guests include advisor to CM, Technical Education & Election, Medo Yhokha, representatives from frontal organizations and neighbouring villages.

The programme was led by monolith committee convenor, Kropo Neikha while finance committee member, Keneikhrül Noswe proposed the vote of thanks. A new team of VYO executives with Vizayie Naleo as president and Khrüpavil Neikha as general secretary was elected.
