Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA), a nationwide initiative launched by the central government to modernize Indian agriculture through scientific outreach, sustainable practices, and farmer empowerment, was held at Chiephobozou Town Community Hall, Kohima district.
The campaign aims to reach 1.5 crore farmers across 700 districts by June 12, 2025, as part of India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. The Chiephobozou event brought together 170 farmers from three villages, fostering discussions on agricultural innovation, knowledge-sharing, and inter-departmental collaboration. ADC and Executive Officer Alemyapang Longchar, the special guest, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting farmers through modern agricultural technologies and services. He stressed the importance of adopting location-specific practices to boost productivity, sustainability, and income.
Experts from NRC-Mithun, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), and Agriculture & Allied Departments participated. Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) Kohima, Dr. Wopanthung Ezung, led a session on meat consumption patterns in Nagaland, highlighting the economic losses from imported meat. He urged farmers to prioritize local livestock farming, which would enhance meat quality, retain wealth within the state, and create employment opportunities for youth.
Dr. Ezung introduced two key financial support schemes—the Chief Minister Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI) and the National Livestock Mission – Entrepreneur Development Programme (NLM-EDP)—to help farmers invest in sustainable agriculture. Specialists Dr. Jayanta Kr. Chamuah, Dr. Martina Shitiri, and Dr. Shisarenla Aier from NRC-Mithun and KVK, Kohima, led discussions on livestock deworming, composite fish culture, off-season vegetable cultivation, climate-resilient farming, and improved crop varieties.
