Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha on Thursday informed that the Voters Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) would be used for the bye-election to the 10-Northern Angami-1 Assembly Constituency to be held on July 29.
Talking to media persons here, Sinha said this would be the second time where VVPAT would be used in Nagaland. Sinha also informed that campaigning had come to an end at 4 p.m. Thursday while exit polls have also been prohibited till the polling is over. The CEO said adequate Central armed forces would be deputed in all the 25 polling stations to ensure peaceful conduct of polling, with photographers/videographers at every polling staton to capture the whole election process.
He assured that the use of VVPAT will have nil chances of anomalies as voters would be able to verify their voting. Sinha said proper instructions for use of VVPAT in the form of posters would be put up at various locations both in English and Tenyidie.
As directed by the ECI, Sinha has asked all electors who have been issued EPIC to produce the same for identification at their respective polling stations. For those who do not have the EPIC, they can produce valid photo identity proof.
The CEO has also informed that voters can contact the toll free control room– 1950 for any complaint/grievances.
Meanwhile, additional CEO, N. Moa Aier said that the SVEEP campaign in the state was carried out with the support of NBCC’s clean election campaign.
Later, in the separate press briefing, DC Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan informed the constituency has been divided into four sectors under sector magistrate and commander for better security. Flag March: Ahead of bye-election Central security forces comprising of 78 Bn. CRPF, 173 Bn. CRPF, 93 Bn. BSF and DEF Kohima on Thursday conducted area domination exercise in the form of “Flag March” in areas under the constituency.
Sr. SP Kohima said the exercise was conducted to instill a sense of security among the voters and the general public for the ensuing bye-poll scheduled to be held on July 29, 2017.
