Ward 10 of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) emerged as the champions of the first Inter-Ward Football Tournament (DMC Trophy 2025), organized by the Dimapur District Veteran Football Association (DDVFA).
Altogether, 13 wards under DMC participated in the week-long tournament, which culminated with the final match played between Ward 10 and Ward 22 at Dimapur District Sports Council (DDSC) Stadium on Saturday.
In the individual categories, Rankathung of Ward 10 was adjudged as Best Goalkeeper, while his teammate Neibulie Lama received the Best Defender award. Highest Scorer went to Jeniren Jami of Ward 10 with a total of four goals in the tournament, while Player of the Tournament was awarded to Renjamo Ngullie of Ward 22. The title of Best Ward was bagged by Ward 3.
Delivering his speech on behalf of the special guest, Advisor, Tribal Affairs and Elections, H Tovihoto Yepthomi, who could not attend due to official commitments, Executive Engineer, Tribal Affairs, Er. Nagashe Swu said the event was more than just a celebration of football, but a testament to unity, sportsmanship, and community engagement.
“Football is more than just a sport. It is a universal language that brings people together from different backgrounds, cultures, and walks of life. When we step onto the field, we leave behind our differences and come together as one team, one family, united by a shared passion and respect for the game”, he stated.
He further emphasized that sportsmanship was the foundation of true greatness, teaching players to win with humility and accept defeat with dignity, whilst adding that sports have the power to strengthen communities, inspire youth, promote healthy lifestyles, and foster harmony through teamwork and mutual respect.
He later lauded the efforts of DDVFA and DMC for organizing the tournament to encourage young talents and foster community spirit, adding that such initiatives not only promote football but also build bonds among citizens.
Delivering a short speech, DMC Sanitation Convener, Achum Jami, expressed appreciation to the organizers and participating wards for the successful completion of the tournament. He also congratulated all footballers for their talent and called upon all 23 wards under DMC to participate in future editions.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Sangtila Longchar, invocation offered by Associate Pastor, DABA, Imnatoshi Longkumer, special number presented by Jekheto Achumi, and vote of thanks was delivered by DDVFA member, Renthungo Ezung.
