Agri, Electrical and Forest colony ward number 17 received the annual best and cleanest award 2023 organised by Kohima Municipal Council (KMC). The prize distribution programme was held at Capital Convention Center Kohima on Deember 11.
The second place was awarded to Midland colony ward number 9, and third place to Hospital colony ward number 10.
Under the Cleanest shop category 2023 the first place was bagged by T.T Stationaries Bayavu, second place by Storage Hardware Pezielietsie and third place by Sushil Pan shop Phoolbari.
Appreciation certificate for contribution towards a Cleaner Kohima were given to Don Bosco College Kohima, Forest Colony, Ao Kaketshir Telongjem Kohima and Kho-o SHG Bayavu.
The event was graced by advisor of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio.
He said that the objective of organizing the event was not only to compete for the award but rather to raise awareness and inspire community engagement in promoting sanitation and a clean environment.
KMC administrator, T Lanusenla Longkumer informed that the cleanest ward award underwent a modification, with the addition of the term “best” and the distinction was not solely based on cleanliness but encompassed a comprehensive evaluation of multiple criteria . She informed that throughout the year, the area in-charge conducted ongoing assessments, culminating in a final report that determined the awardee.
A special category was also introduced to acknowledge exceptional contributions from various colonies, NGOs, and SHGs, KMC administrator said. Neilhouphrelie, assistant chief inspector of KMC, explained that the selection of the best and cleanest ward was made based on criteria which encompassed general cleanliness, drainage maintenance, community service, sanitation fees compliance, upkeep of sanitation vehicles, attendance at meetings, introduction of innovative ideas, involvement in government projects, and decorations during festive occasions.
Pelenuo, the founder of Züb Züb India, informed that they had successfully raised awareness on waste management and segregation in Kohima by reaching out to 5800 households out of the total 23000.
