A new water fountain was inaugurated at Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) Jubilee Park, located at the traffic intersection in Landmark Colony, Dimapur, on Tuesday. The fountain was constructed by Urban Division Dimapur PHE Dimapur, funded under National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).

Delivering a short message after inaugurating the water fountain, special guest, member secretary, Nagaland Pollution Control Board & state nodal officer, NCAP, K Hukato Chishi, acknowledged the department for successful completion of the project.

Reflecting on how the state received the NCAP, Hukato said that it was not for positive reasons, explaining that both Dimapur and Kohima were identified as cities that failed to meet the air pollution standards established by the National Pollution Control Board.
He however expressed gratitude to the control board in providing NCAP to Nagaland, designed specifically to address and mitigate air pollution issues.

Hukato also emphasized the importance of water in the environment, explaining that water helps to keep air particles settled, reducing pollution and improving air quality. He warned that a lack of moisture in the air can have detrimental effects on health and quality of life.

He said that the water fountain would act as an air purifier, contributing to a healthier environment.
Hukato further urged the people of Dimapur to donate small plots of land in their respective colonies and wards to build similar water fountains or gardens, to enhance the environmental benefits for the community. Delivering a short message, DNSU president, Hinoto P Aomi, in his address said that the Jubilee Park was not just about celebrating 25 years of DNSU existence but also the celebration of the vision of its former leaders.

Delivering the technical report, executive engineer, PHED, Urban Division Dimapur, Er Bendangtola Walling, informed that the fountain has a capacity of 7000 liters, with a pump capacity of 10 horse power, consisting of 18 nozzles and 9 underwater LED lights. The cost of the activity costs was Rs. 10 lakh, she informed.

She said that the main objective of the water fountain was to minimize and reduce dust pollution created on the roadside, whilst also beautifying the area.
Bendangtola also informed that operation and maintenance would involve periodic refilling and cleaning of water, and also the operational cost of the pump, which could be carried out by the Dimapur Municipal Council.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by SDO maintenance, PHE, Urban Division Dimapur, Er V Mughalu Sumi and vote of thanks by Junior Engineer, PHED, Urban Division Dimapur, Er Moatemsu Walling.
