Watsü Mungdang and Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) have condemned the alleged rape of a girl by one Sumon Subbha (27) at Mokokchung town on September 30, 2025.
In a statement, Tir Wt. Tianaro Jamir and Tongti Zülur Wt. T. Narola Longchar affirmed Mungdang’s stand against “such a heinous and uncivilized act”. WM has appealed to the law enforcing agency to award befitting punishment to the accused.
Further, Mungdang demanded that justice must be delivered at the earliest.
AKM: Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) through its president Lanutoshi Aier and general secretary Satemmongba stated that the victim, a student, was “brutally subjected to this inhuman act.”
Stating that the incident has “gravely shaken our community”, the AKM said that it was not only a crime against an individual but an affront to the entire society. AKM demanded that the police and administration treat the matter with the utmost seriousness and urgency, adding that “mere assurances will not suffice.”
AKM demanded that accused must be prosecuted under the fullest extent of the law, and justice must be delivered swiftly.
It cautioned that any negligence or leniency in handling the case would be seen as a failure of the authorities to uphold their responsibility to protect the citizens.
Further, AKM demanded that the administration and law-enforcing agencies immediately strengthen safety measures, particularly for women and students, and ensure strict vigilance to prevent the recurrence of such heinous crimes.
Meanwhile, AKM also appealed to the young people to exercise extreme caution while using social media. It cautioned that online friendships with strangers could be dangerous and meeting random people after befriending them online must be strictly avoided.
AKM stressed the need for awareness and vigilance to ensuring one’s safety in this digital age. It also urged parents, guardians and students to take the matter seriously. Stating that it would not remain silent spectators to injustice, AKM affirmed to take every step necessary if the authorities failed to act decisively.
AKM also affirmed solidarity with the victim and her family during this time of deep anguish.
It reaffirmed that such acts of brutality would never be tolerated under any circumstance.
