Watsü Mungdang defends Jamir’s right to speak

DIMAPUR, SEP 22 (NPN): Watsü Mungdang, the apex women’s organisation of the Ao community, has reaffirmed that the Naga political issue concerns every Naga and that all Nagas have the right to express their views on matters concerning the Naga people and their future.
Taking note of the recent public discourse surrounding the statement of former Nagaland chief minister and former governor Dr S.C. Jamir on the Naga political issue, as well as questions raised over his right to speak on the matter, Watsü Mungdang president Tianaro Jamir and secretary Narola Longchar said the Naga political issue fundamentally belonged to every Naga by birth and that it would stand by the issue as its predecessors had sacrificed for the Nagas.
However, the organisation condemned the statements of NSCN (I-M) deputy ato kilonser ‘lt. gen.’ (retd) V.S. Atem and collective leadership member and special emissary R.H. Raising for questioning an individual’s right to speak on the issue. It also condemned the statement of Achumbemo Kikon, MLA, for humiliating Dr S.C. Jamir, whom it said continued to work tirelessly for the Nagas.
