WC, NNPGs to set up immigration control task force

DIMAPUR, JUL 31 (NPN)

Working Committee (WC) Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) Thursday announced its decision to set up immigration control task force (ICTF) to control and regulate issues related to illegal immigrants in the Naga inhabited areas.
WC, NNPGs through its media cell informed that the decision was taken after taking serious note of the “pre-imminent threat being posed to the demographic, socio-economic and political future of the Nagas”.
WC said it respected and promoted religious tolerance “taking into account” the secular nature of co-existence of diverse communities in Naga inhabited areas. However, it said the “liberal approach” would “never be allowed to be misused to promote religious fundamentalism.”
Therefore, the WC affirmed not to allow any Madrasas to be established and also disband any existing Madrasas in the Naga inhabited territories. It said Masjids also should not be misused to “foment Jihadist ideology” in any manner. In this regard, WC has asked the concerned Muslim Councils in Naga areas to coordinate with the ICTF on related issues. WC also said it would adopt “long term policy oriented strategic measures” rather than short term emotional response.
In this regard, WC said intensive identification and registration of migrants becomes cognizant in order to avoid unnecessary harassment to legally settled citizens.
Therefore, WC has informed all the concerned community leaders especially sectors and village authorities at the grassroots level to extend cooperation to the ICTF.
WC said its move should not be misjudged as anti-Muslim agenda or against any particular religious or social groups.
