Media Cell of Working Committee (WC), NNPGs said they were obliged to dispel “ mis-elucidation from many unsolicited sources on the status of Naga national flag and constitution” which have created “more perplexity and apprehensions” among Nagas rather than providing clarity and precision.
WC said that in the light of these “undesirable and misunderstood notion” it was clearing all doubts, once and for all including uncertainties, for the common people on the agreed position between the government of India and WC of NNPGs.
WC said whether it be “a God given covenant or a man made emblem”, the rainbow flag embossed below with David’s star had always been “in sacred utility since the dawn of Naga struggle and no group or entity” would intend to weaken them before or post solution. WC therefore, maintained that only the democratic and popularly elected Tatar Hoho and Leacy Hoho as elected and empowered by the Naga people would legislate and legitimise the flag’s usage “in whatever manner as may deem fit post solution.” WC therefore said “the illegitimate comprehension may be put to rest in the context of the flag.”
On the perception that national constitution/Yehzabo was being allegedly forfeited by WC, NNPGs, the communiqué said without any ambiguity, it may be put forward, that since emergence of local-self government as thriving miniature republics in all Naga villages either independently or co-independently, Nagas by and large, “practised conventions based on hereditary, customary and traditional ethos.”
WC said that there has never been any written or codified system of law, order or administration of justice till today except for the modern day courts of post-British-Indian era. However in cases involving Naga traditional and customary issues, even state or regional high courts or the Indian supreme court, usually referred these cases back to the customary courts for final adjudication.
Further, WC said if need arises under present circumstances, the best Naga minds can broaden their intellect and along with combined wisdom and expertise, drawn from every tribe and community will codify the law and put it for legislation to the Tatar and Leacy Hoho “in consonance with the realities of the times.”
Having stated its position, WC asked if it wasn’t “too premature to depreciate the Agreed Position between the WC and GoI on mere scepticism”? It said to brand ‘WC of NNPGs as having forfeited the demands for flag or constitution, is bereft of truth, when even the door for sovereignty and integration has not bee sealed or culminated beyond the redemption but to be pursued through peaceful, democratic approaches.”
