WCYO condemns DDADU president’s statement on June 15 assault case

DIMAPUR, JUN 20 (NPN)

The Western Chakhesang Youth Organization (WCYO) has strongly condemned the recent press conference held by president of the Dimapur District Auto Drivers Union (DDADU) in connection with the June 15 sexual assault case.
In a press release, WCYO president Wekupe Therie said that the organization expressed deep concern over what it described as the DDADU president’s “one-sided knowledge from secondary sources,” which was publicly shared with the media while the matter remains under police investigation.
WCYO said it was disturbing that DDADU conducted its own internal inquiry into the accused individual– who is currently in judicial custody– while police investigation was still ongoing. The youth body asserted that the information shared by DDADU president “holds no truth and has put the already traumatized victim in a poor light in the mass media.”
WCYO said that by sharing unverified information, DDADU president has compromised the integrity of the ongoing investigation and caused further harm to the victim.
WCYO therefore demanded DDADU president to tender an unconditional public apology through mass media, acknowledging the harm caused by his actions.
Failure to do so, WCYO said it would be compelled to take necessary measures to safeguard the victim’s dignity and ensure that justice is upheld.
