WDRA gets PCP Air Rifle from DSO Wokha

In a gesture of appreciation and recognition, the District Sports Office (DSO) Wokha and the District Sports Council (DSC), presented a PCP Air Rifle to the Wokha District Rifle Association (WDRA). The handing over programme was held in Wokha on May 5 marking a significant milestone for the association.

District Sports Officer Wokha Libemo Jami, emphasized on the significance of the gesture, attributing it to the association’s tireless efforts in promoting the sport and even producing state level gold medallist despite facing challenges due to inadequate equipment. Jami credited Deputy Commissioner Wokha and District Sports Council chairman Wokha Ajit Kumar Ranjan for his keen interest in obtaining the PCP Air Rifle for the association.


Jami further shed light on the commitment of the District Sports Council Wokha towards empowering women in the field of sports as sports in Nagaland seems to be male dominated.
President of the Wokha District Rifle Association T Renphyo Humtsoe, expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner and the District Youth Resource Officer for their support in acquiring the equipment. Humtsoe shared the association’s vision, which includes hunting for talents by reaching out to schools and villages, with a special focus on encouraging female participation.
He highlighted the natural shooting talent inbuilt among the Nagas for which he expressed optimism that with the availability of the rifle, the association will conduct regular practice sessions, aiming to produce more shooters in the future.
