Wokha District Village Council Chairman Association (WDVCCA) has condemned the alleged assault on the public by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel along the Nagaland-Assam border.
The press note signed by WDVCCA president, Myingthungo Odyuo; general secretary Zayio Ezung, jt. secretary Shanthungo Yanthan and treasurer Renphamo Yanthan, alleged that in yester-years, the SSB had engaged non-nagas to burgle the logs of the Village Council Chairman of Soshan village and also assaulted the family members of Chandalashung New Council Chairman, creating unnecessary tension. The note said that the matter was settled amicably through the initiative of the adhoc commandant of SSB Assam.
It further alleged that while, despite of all these untold sufferings, they tried to maintain a peaceful atmosphere without any reactions, again, the SSB beat up youths of Yanpha Village and on learning of this, the village council chairman of the village, M. Nlumbemo Humtsoe, who is also the advisor of the WDVCCA, went to inquire on the incident but he was also assaulted by the SSB for no reason.
Calling the SSB a ‘neutral force’, WDVCCA opined that any neutral force is meant for protecting the public and questioned how the SSB could protect the public if they can go to the extent of assaulting a village council chairman (also advisor to WDVCCA). They said such actions show that the lives of the public are of no value to them.
The WDVCCA stated that they condemn the actions of the SSB on the village council chairman on three occasions so far.
