Advisor women resource development, R Khing, Monday said women were performing well in every field in Naga society, but there was still not a single woman in the law-making body.
Khing was speaking as special guest at the Mykifest Award 2020-2021 organised by department of Women Resource Development (WRD) coinciding with the International Women’s Day at Hotel Japfü here Monday.
Emphasizing the need for women to enter the assembly, advisor called upon the womenfolk to come forward and become shareholders even in the highest law-making bodies including the assembly, cabinet and also local bodies.
In the olden times, Khing said men, in addition to being the protector to their families, also performed various chores which were unable to perform by womenfolk.
In those days, he said a person’s social status was determined by wielding machetes and spears, an area which was dominated by men, while women were confined mostly to household responsibilities. However, with the change in time, advisor said olden practices were merely stories now and men have become lazy and dependent on women not just in household chores but even in looking after a family.
Further, he said that women were the greatest gift to mankind and that God had placed in them a special kind of love, which had the ability to melt even the hardest of hearts in men.
Khing pointed out that department of women resource development was the brainchild of chief minister Neiphiu Rio, who formulated the need for the same after observing how women were unable to perform to the full capacity due to lack of opportunities.
He said that the department had started various initiatives solely for the uplift of women in various fields. Khing asserted that for a society to move forward it was crucial that womenfolk were moving ahead.
