Week-long Civil Defence training conducted across Nagaland

The week-long Civil Defence Wardens and Volunteers Training organised by the Department of Home Guards, Civil Defence & State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) culminated across Nagaland on November 24, 2025, with closing programmes held in Kohima, Peren and Mokokchung. In Wokha, the week-long training held at Tiyi Hall from November 18 to 24 brought together 360 volunteers, both men and women aged between 18 and 45 years, from across the district. The programme focused on disaster preparedness and response, covering topics such as Civil Defence history, objectives, organisational structure, disaster mitigation, and modern defence challenges.
Participants received hands-on training in rescue principles, knotting techniques, fire behaviour, and safe entry into damaged buildings. Practical sessions included handling fire extinguishers, rescue equipment, and building collapse response. A major component of the training was first aid, including CPR, artificial respiration, and management of shock, fractures, burns, strokes, and heart attacks.
Company Commander Echung Konyak S and Platoon Commander Mhonyamo led the training, supported by SDRF personnel.
During the closing ceremony, certificates and training materials were distributed. Echung commended the discipline and enthusiasm of the trainees and urged them to use their skills meaningfully for the benefit of society. Mhonyamo Lotha thanked the Deputy Commissioner, instructors, colony councils, and participants for their cooperation.
MOKOKCHUNG: In Mokokchung, the first phase of the training concluded at Town Hall. Delivering the closing address, EAC Neithozo Theunuo congratulated the trainees and expressed gratitude to HG, CD & SDRF for their dedication and service.
He emphasised the critical role of wardens and volunteers during emergencies and highlighted the government’s recognition of their contributions through the issuance of ID cards and certificates.
He encouraged participants to continue future training sessions to meet evolving challenges in disaster management. Council chairman of Chungtia Village, Assamwati, representing the trainees, shared positive feedback on the programme.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Company Commander Lanutemjen, who acknowledged the support of district administration, Senior SP, DPRO, Ao Senden, Watsu, Village Councils and MMC. Instructor Havildar Abovi K. Awomi delivered the closing remark.
KOHIMA: In Kohima, the closing programme was held at the Conference Hall of the District Commandant Office, HG, CD & SDRF. Altogether 200 trainees participated in the intensive training, which focused on disaster preparedness, emergency response, community safety and resilience-building. Participants were equipped with skills in incident management, fire safety, first aid, search and rescue operations, and mitigation measures to enhance their capacity to respond effectively to both natural and man-made disasters.
PEREN: In Peren, the closing programme was held at Town Hall. Additional Deputy Commissioner, D. Robin, in his address, stressed the importance of preparedness, capacity building and community-based support during incidents such as earthquakes, landslides and other calamities. He urged participants to remain vigilant and ready to respond immediately when required. The training was conducted from November 18 to 24. (DPRO Peren)
