Weekly Bazaar in Wokha offers organic vegetables

A weekly bazaar was inaugurated at the Public Ground, Wokha, on Tuesday by advisor of agriculture Mhathung Yanthan. Organized under the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM), the event aims to help farmers sell their produce directly to consumers by connecting local Agri-Nutri gardens with the market.
Five federations of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have come together to support farmers, particularly those facing transportation challenges when selling their produce. This initiative aligns with the “Lakhpati Didi” vision, which focuses on empowering women and enhancing rural livelihoods.
Speaking at the event, Yanthan encouraged farmers to stay committed and work collectively. He stressed the importance of SHG principles—saving, investing, and becoming self-reliant—and urged people to utilize government-provided opportunities for development.
He also highlighted the need for better packaging, branding, and marketing, particularly for organic and indigenous products, which have strong consumer appeal. While praising SHG improvements in these areas, he emphasized maintaining quality and increasing production. Yanthan interacted with SHG members, applauding their efforts in managing and expanding their groups effectively.
The weekly market will now be held every Saturday, offering fresh organic vegetables at wholesale prices and enabling farmers to connect directly with consumers.
