Nagaland Governor, RN Ravi asserted that supporting the welfare of ex-servicemen was important as they had dedicated their youth towards the service of the nation. Addressing the 23rd annual meeting of the Rajya Sainik Board (RSB) at Raj Bhavan, Ravi called on the DCs of the state to take initiatives in their respective districts to work out means for rehabilitating ex-servicemen.
Since government employment for all ex-servicemen was not possible, Ravi said alternative avenues should be explored like skill development, vocational training, etc. to rehabilitate them. He also stressed on creating more awareness for Naga youth to join the armed forces. “The inherent strength of the people of Nagaland as a martial race is not adequately harnessed by the country,” he added.
Further, governor appreciated Nagaland chief minister for announcing adequate contribution by the state government towards the corpus fund of the RSB for the next five years.
He said such contribution will go a long way in improving the welfare of ex-servicemen in the state.
Speeches were also delivered by the chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, GOC 3 Corps and AOC-in-C, Eastern Air Command. The programme was also attended by chief secretary Temjen Toy and DGP T. John Longkumer.
